POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

Imagen
Hello everyone! I think it is very necessary to do a postgraduate degree once you graduate from university due to 2 main reasons: having a better curriculum and being a better professional. I have never thought much about my professional future as a geographer because I'm in my second year, the possibility of graduating is still very far away. But I'm motivated by the idea of studying abroad, for example taking a course on the glacial environment in Norway or Sweden. Furthermore, these countries are very similar to southern Chile due to the geomorphological heritage of the last ice age. Another good option is to study in South Asia because in that area there is an important mountain block, where the highest mountains in the world are, which are: "Everest" between the border of China and Nepal, "K2" between China and Pakistan, and "Kanchenjunga" between India and Nepal. As Chile is a mountainous country, I could learn a lot about that. Of course,

MY FUTURE JOB

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about my future job. As I study geography I would like to work in an environmental consultancy or in a research center. I still don't know what area I'm going to specialize in, but the glacial environments catch my attention. In addition, with climate change the ice masses have been reduced considerably, which makes it a very serious problem both nationally and globally. Being a glaciologist in Chile is very interesting because the country has 80% of the glaciers in South America. I have done some research and there is a foundation called "Fundación Glaciares Chilenos" that publishes different articles, many of them related to the problems that affect glaciers such as mining activities and climate change. Being a geographer in general involves a lot of research on the outside. I have never done research on salaries because I am not interested as long as I work in what I like. But the positive is that it is a very broad profession,

WILD ANIMALS AND PETS

Imagen
I have always liked pets, specifically cats and dogs, but unfortunately I can't have one at home. When I live alone in the future I would like to have a cat called "cheese". I consider myself an animal lover, whenever I see one on the street I caress it, it's a somewhat dangerous practice because they can bite me, but there are very nice dogs and kittens. I think that as human beings we are very speciesists, because we do nothing to avoid abuse in the livestock industry, while pets have more rights than other animals. Recently I was researching some aspects of the religions of India, it's the country with the most vegetarians in the world. Most Hindus don't eat meat, even a cow has the same rights as a citizen. Buddhists don't eat meat either, they are not allowed to kill any animal or insect. But there is an even more compassionate religion, Jainism. They filter the water to avoid consuming bacteria and they also cover their mouths to avoid eating any sma

MY CHILDHOOD DAYS

Imagen
Hi! Today I will tell you about my childhood. Curiously, whenever I listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers I remember my childhood, it's because my older brother listened to that band all day in our house. I have two older brothers, with them I have a lot of age difference. When I was 7-8 years old they were already teenagers. One of my favorite memories of my childhood is when they broadcast "Malcolm in the middle" on television, I have always thought that my family is similar to Malcom's family, especially my mother is very similar to Lois. She gets mad like Lois in the series. When I turned 10 I learned to ride a bicycle, I had a friend near my house and with her we traveled the nearby streets. More than once I fell, but I never suffered a fracture. I also learned to rollerblade. At present I'm a very sedentary woman, I don't do any kind of sport. I think my childhood in general was good, I appreciate that my parents never opposed my decisions. That's me

THE BEST CONCERT

Imagen
My best concert experience so far was seeing Iron Maiden live at the National Stadium in 2016. It was my first concert and I was very excited, the band had released a new album and that was the main reason for the tour. Also, another band called Anthrax was played, it's 80s thrash metal. My brother and his friend accompanied me, who also like that kind of music.  Iron Maiden is a classic British heavy metal band, undoubtedly one of the most important of the musical genre. I think many have heard several of his songs. Seeing them play live is something incredible, even though their members are quite old, they convey a lot of feeling and energy. But the most important moment for me was when they played "Fear Of The Dark" and the whole stadium sang in unison. I have also been to the Black Sabbath and Behemoth concert, next year I will go see Opeth, one of my favorite Swedish bands.Without a doubt, metal and its sub genres is my lifelong musical style. Bye bye!

A COUNTRY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW

Imagen
Hello guys, one of the countries that I would like to visit is Iceland because it has an amanzing geography. It's characterized by having volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, lava fields and huge glaciers. In addition, it's history is quite interesting, since the first settlements were Vikings. Currently it's a country with a very small population, about 365,000 people, there are even more sheep than inhabitants. Once I graduate as a geographer I would like to know the country since I will have enough knowledge to understand the geomorphology of the place, I would like to visit cities like Reykjavik and Ísafjörður. Although the quality of life is quite good, I would not like to live in that country since being near the North Pole in summer there is sunlight all day while in winter it's considerably reduced. I think this phenomenon could affect my mental health. So I hope one day to go as a tourist or work a few months in Iceland. Bye!
